About Trademarks & Licensing

The mission of the Department of Trademarks and Licensing is to protect, promote, and enhance the image of the University of Arizona. The Department insures the control and proper presentation of The University of Arizona brand, and protects the appropriate use of those trademarks, service marks, logos, and insignias that have come to be associated with The University of Arizona. Revenues generated through the Trademarks and Licensing program are used to support and enhance the quality of life for students, faculty and staff across our campus.

The Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of The University of Arizona has registered the names, logos and trademarks of the University with the Patent and Trademark Office of the United States. The University requires all groups, departments, individuals, and companies to obtain approval from the Department of Trademarks and Licensing prior to producing any products that utilize the University's registered and common law trademarks and service marks regardless of use or method of distribution.

The Department of Trademarks and Licensing continually works to insure fair business practices through education, enforcement and promotional efforts. To expand the program and ensure its growth, the University has partnered with The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) to serve as its exclusive trademark licensing representative.

Please note: the University will implement a new royalty rate as of January 1, 2009. The new rate will be 10% for resale items and 12% for promotional licensing merchandise.
